Haiku in German/English from WHCgerman

It`s Spring Again

It`s Spring Again

Vom Eise befreit sind Strom und Bäche
Durch des Frühlings holden, belebenden Blick...

(Stream and brooks are freed from ice
By spring`s sweet enlivening glance...)

J.W. von Goethe, Faust 1

Haiku-poets in many countries enjoy springtime, so they do in Germany, in Austria. Like in the old days poets admire blossoms, the brightness of spring days, they have a feeling of joie de vivre. These days we use the internet to share our haiku-poetry, to communicate worldwide.

Dear haiku-friends around the world, you all are invited,

do come in please,
listen to a lark and...

Best wishes,
Angelika Wienert

EDITOR'S WELCOME

morning traffic jam -
under the bridge a hoboe pees
into the river

by J-P. Cresta, France

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
People are driving to work, in the morning. So numerous, so similar in their
cars, stuck into a traffic jam on a bridge. Under this bridge, a hoboe
freely eases himself into the river. The opposition is total. Is the tramp
the wiser of (us) all ? A freer man ?
For the time being, he has no worries, no hangups, no qualms, he's just his own self and, unconcernedly, frees himself (from too much alcohol ?) into the water.
Note the clever construction of the poem : " bouchon " - which in french
means " cork " and/or " bottleneck " - is the first word ; " eau " ( =
"water " in this case of the "river") is the last. (: As if the tramp might
be more concerned with bottles of water than of alcohol ! Here is the funny
side of the poem. But there's more : Is the transmutation of things, of
beings, at stake ? : alcohol changing into water ? blood into wine ? flesh
into bread ?: one wonders, between humour and seriousness.
A strong sense of unity throughout the poem is thus created (: through
this possible play on words, in french at least), beyond the utter
opposition of two seemingly irreconcilable worlds. The whole cycle of life
is at work on the bridge and underneath. All is one, united by the poet's
broad vision of the scenery.
A truly successful haiku.
