EDITOR: DANIEL PY, FRANCE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EDITOR'S WELCOME
La deuxième collection du WHCfrench
Avec cette deuxième collection, WHC french s'étoffe en quantité et en
diversité.
Nous vous présentons maintenant des auteurs provenant principalement de
France et du Canada, mais aussi de Belgique, du Royaume Uni et des États
Unis. Le WHCfrench grandit, et nous en sommes fiers et heureux. Cette
deuxième collection s'étoffe en diversité également : Nous présentons en
bilingue (français-anglais) des haïkus, certes, mais aussi maintenant des
tanka, cinquains, rengay, et comptons bien ne pas nous en arrêter là!
Je tiens également à accueillir et remercier chaleureusement Linda
Papanicolaou qui nous offre sa précieuse aide éditoriale technique, et son
dynamisme à ouvrir notre éventail WHCfrench au monde du cinquain, du haïga,
du rengay ...
Si vous désirez vous joindre à nous, n'hésitez pas ! Voici notre ardesse :
bouchon du matin -
sous le pont un clochard pisse
dans l'eau
morning traffic jam -
under the bridge a hoboe pees
into the river
by J-P. Cresta, France
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

People are driving to work, in the morning. So numerous, so similar in their
cars, stuck into a traffic jam on a bridge. Under this bridge, a hoboe
freely eases himself into the river. The opposition is total. Is the tramp
the wiser of (us) all ? A freer man ?

For the time being, he has no worries, no hangups, no qualms, he's just his own self and, unconcernedly, frees himself (from too much alcohol ?) into the water.

Note the clever construction of the poem : " bouchon " - which in french
means " cork " and/or " bottleneck " - is the first word ; " eau " ( =
"water " in this case of the "river") is the last. (: As if the tramp might
be more concerned with bottles of water than of alcohol ! Here is the funny
side of the poem. But there's more : Is the transmutation of things, of
beings, at stake ? : alcohol changing into water ? blood into wine ? flesh
into bread ?: one wonders, between humour and seriousness.

A strong sense of unity throughout the poem is thus created (: through
this possible play on words, in french at least), beyond the utter
opposition of two seemingly irreconcilable worlds. The whole cycle of life
is at work on the bridge and underneath. All is one, united by the poet's
broad vision of the scenery.

A truly successful haiku.

We are also proud to widen our scope of writing towards tanka, cinquain,
rengay, and more is to come !

I would like to give a special and warmest welcome and thanks to Linda
